BEAUTIFUL MORNING:

Beautiful Morning was conceived from the artist’s interpretation of a dream. The dream encompasses the secret longings and search for direction from a girl at age thirteen. The girl represents the artist in her youth.

Prominent to the dream was the old green wallpaper, staircase and window looking on to the remoteness of the countryside. The dream took place in an old, empty farmhouse in a remote area.

The sun shining in through the window shows bits of dust in the corner of the room, reminiscent of the artist’s favorite poem entitled, “Dust in the Sunlight and Memory in Corners,” by T.S. Eliot from A Song for Simeon. The artist first discovered this poem in college when she played this piece on the piano with the same title, in Poems for Piano by Vincent Persichetti.

An art critic commented that the style was comparable to the “Neo Pop Surreal” or “Lowbrow” movement that is currently popular on the West Coast. Others have described Beautiful Morning as a Folk piece, while others have categorized it as Fantasy. The artist regards Beautiful Morning as a personal statement.
